Douglas D. Ross, MD/PhD: dross@som.umaryland.edu  Dr. Ross is the Principal Investigator of the R25 grant "Hospice Educational Program for the School of Medicine" that provides funding for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Junior Hospice Rotation and other palliative care educational programs being integrated into the University of Maryland School of Medicine curriculum. Dr. Ross is a medical oncologist, laboratory scientist, and a volunteer on the Physician Staff of the Joseph Richey Hospice. He is responsible, along with Dr. Alexander and Keay, for delivery of content on pain and symptom management on the first half-day of the Junior Hospice Rotation, and serves as role model for a hospice medical director in the rotation's IDT session on the 4th half-day.

Carla S. Alexander, MD: calexand@medicine.umaryland.edu Dr. Alexander is a Clinical Assistant Professor of medicine in Infectious Diseases and Oncology. Dr. Alexander is immediate Past President of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Timothy J. Keay, MD, MA-Theology: tkeay@umaryland.edu Dr. Keay is a Faculty Scholar of the Project on Death in America, working on end-of-life care in nursing facilities. He has taught at the University of Maryland School of Medicine for the past twelve years, and is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Keay serves as hospice medical director role model in the IDT session of the Junior Hospice Rotation, and assists in delivery of content related to pain and symptom management on the first half-day of the rotation.

David Hamburger, MD: Email: DavidHa@marylandphysicianscare.com. Dr. Hamburger is currently the Chief Medical Officer of Maryland Physicians Care. He was a practicing pediatrician for over 20 years. He has taught ambulatory pediatrics to MS-III students during one-on-one clinical rotations in his office based practice. He comes to his interest in Palliative Care from a lifetime of reading in the field as well as experience during a rotation at Memorial-Sloan Kettering as a pediatric resident. Dr. Hamburger serves as a role model for a hospice medical director in the IDT meeting of the final half-day session of the rotation.

Dan Timmel, LCSW: Mr. Timmel is a licensed Social Worker with extensive experience working with adult and pediatric oncology patients. He was part of the core group that developed the Junior Hospice Rotation. Mr. Timmel is a highly regarded educator who has taught i1n the medial school, in continuing education programs, and community education in the region. Mr. Timmel is responsible for teaching content related to grief, bereavement and psychosocial issues.

Debbie Shpritz, RN, PhD: Project Director for Palliative Care Educational Efforts; Office – BRB 7-031; 410-328-3825; 410-328-2822 (FAX); DShpritz@som.umaryland.edu. Dr. Shpritz has a master’s degree in nursing education and a doctorate in education with a specialization in curriculum theory and development. Her expertise is in the area of curriculum development, implementation and evaluation. She has been a nurse for over 30 years and taught for the past 20 years at the University of Maryland School of Nursing working with undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Shpritz plays the role of the hospice nurse at the mock IDT meeting and coordinates student hospice visits.

Rev. Carole Jackson Cochran: Beeper: 3023. Email: carolejcochran@juno.com  Rev. Cochran is a member of Pastoral Care Services, University of Maryland Medical System. She is responsible for content delivered regarding spirituality on the first afternoon of the Junior Hospice Rotation, and was instrumental, along with Rev. Roy in developing that content. She also plays the role of hospice chaplain at the Rotation's IDT meeting on the final half-day.
